Women on the Rise! Interview Series - Yadlynd Cherubin

Please introduce yourself and tell us about your career/business.

My Name is Yadlynd Cherubin. I am a wife, Mother of two boys 5 y/o and 7 y/o and I am a full-time Licensed Realtor in NYC and Long Island, NY.

I’ve been a licensed realtor for 10+ years. I am experienced in traditional sales, Short sales, relocation, and real estate investment. I love what I do and I enjoy educating the public on the benefits of investing in real estate for long term and short term goal.

What services/products do you offer?

I like to consider myself a real estate consultant. My goal and success relies on effectively navigating my clients through the real estate market, by providing them with up to date market data and state of the art technology for marketing. Because, I am a full-time agent, I am able to dedicate time, resources and knowledge of the ever changing real estate market.

Can you share with our reader how you choose this career/business?

I started with a career in Social Work. I come from a long line of social workers and my family has always been involved with investing in real estate. I've always believed that investing in Real estate is often one of the biggest investments a person will make. So I first invested the time, money and resources to learn and understand how to be an effective realtor. I take pride in helping others attain that life changing goal of homeownership. I believe aligning yourself with someone who is experienced, knowledgeable and savvy is so very important in making such a huge investment.

What if your definition of success and what has been your greatest success?

Finding a buyer the ideal home or helping a homeowner sell a home gives me great personal satisfaction, even after more than 10+ years in the real estate business. Buying or selling a home can be very frustrating, time consuming as well as an emotional process. I feel very happy knowing that I have a job that can help families smoothly transition into the next phase of their lives. I know that I am successful when past clients refer their friends and family members to me. It lets me know that they were happy with my services and they trust that I will provide their referrals with the same level of commitment.

What are some of the mistakes you have made with your career/business? What have you learned from these experiences? Share any advice you have with our readers.

Mistakes that I have seen other make is not doing their research and not aligning themselves with a professional that can provide them with the experience and expertise need to complete a successful real estate transaction.

How has networking helped you in your career/business?

Networking is a very important aspect of my profession and book of business. I enjoy meeting people and because I have the flexibility in my schedule, I can often attend community events that can benefit my personal life as well as my professional life. I have had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people especially through social media, who have remained constant in my life. I would strongly recommend that any small business owner, make networking a priority.

Do you have any business start-up advice for our readers that are starting/thinking of starting a business or entering in your field?

Starting a career in real estate can be challenging and costly. As in any small business, you will have to spend money to invest in yourself. I started my career in real estate part-time. After having children, and wanting a more flexible schedule and financial freedom, I decided to take the plunge and focus on what I loved most full time. This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Be sure to surround yourself with likeminded people and you absolutely will need a CPA to assist you your taxes, retirement savings and etc.

How do you achieve work life balance?

Work life balance is very important to me and my family. As a full-time realtor, I have the flexibility that I have always longed for. I am active in my community and local PTA. I try to take yearly vacations and I try my best to set aside family time and date nights. I will say that I have not made exercise a priority. For 2016, this is something that I will be working on.

What’s next for you?

I am looking to scheduling more homebuyer seminars and informational seminars. I also recruit for my Real Estate firm and would love to recruit and train about 50 agents in 2016.

Please share a fun fact about yourself?

I am a native New Yorker and a Valley Stream resident. I love to eat and am always looking for great places to support in our community. I also love to travel and look forward to my upcoming vacations.
