Freedom with Emotional Freedom Techiniques - EFT
I was first introduced to Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) from my cousin many years ago. I was intrigued by this healing modality that could change one’s perspective about a negative situation within minutes leaving them free from painful thoughts. Then years later I was able to begin the process of certification to become an EFT practitioner and it has changed my life and the lives of many of my clients.
EFT Tapping is an effective tool for stress management. It focuses on tapping key acupuncture points on the body that can hold or block emotional energy. The light, tapping pressure on these points, produces opiods and serotonin (feel good hormones) and regulates cortisol (stress hormones), by which the body and mind are then able to release the emotional blockage in that area. “When we tap on these points we elicit a neurochemical relaxation response that can reduce pain, slow down your heart rate, decrease anxiety, regulate the autotomic nervous system and create a sense of calm. It also desensitizes traumatic experiences.” (The Neurochemistry of Counterconditioning: Acupressure Desensitization in Psychotherapy)
This universal healing tool, founded by Gary Craig, has become quite popular, from athletes to CEO’s and from teenagers to the elderly. Why? Perhaps it’s because it has such a long history of success. According to EFT Universe, there are over 5,000 stories from people who have either found healing or benefits from practicing EFT. “This anecdotal evidence is consistent with rigorous scientific research showing that EFT is an ‘evidence-based’ method and … is effective as a self-help tool.” Within one session clients can begin to release emotional baggage that has held them captive for years and continue to work on their own from home. EFT can be done anywhere and at any time to calm the mind, quiet the soul, and bring peace.
The technique also focuses on unconditional love and forgiveness for one’s self, despite feeling negative emotions or having negative thoughts. For example, one feeling anger at a situation may begin tapping by repeating the phrase, “Even though I feel this anger, I deeply and truly love and accept myself.” It’s a phrase that perhaps you are desperate to hear and one that certainly bears repeating.
Several people who have worked with me have stated that they have found peace from situations including a plane flying through turbulence, recovering from sexual assault and PTSD, and adjusting to a new job. The sky is the limit with EFT. Why not be free from what’s holding you back? Why not give tapping a try?
