Women's March on Washington
As the courageous leaders of the Women’s March on Washington movement prepare for this historical event January 21, 2017, the first day of the new administration, I sit here not able to attend but feeling like I need to do something. I am not able to make it to the march for a number of reasons but I realized this is not about one day and one March.
As founder of Women on the Rise NY, my mission is to mentor women small business owners and to encourage women to support one another. I would do this through networking events, hosting workshops for women on small business topics and general issues that affect women’s day to day lives as well as our annual expo. Never did I think it would require me to address my political concerns out in the open. Never did I associate this organization with a political agenda or movement but now, honey, the message is loud and clear, we must assemble.
Women have finally begun to get invited to the table or create their own table. Now the new administration has made part its mission to alter women’s basic rights by going after Planned Parenthood, what will be next? Take away our right to form corporations? Now is the time to wake up and Rise! Now more than ever we must support, teach and encourage each other to grow in our small businesses to become better educated so we can Rise to the next level. We are not all the marching type so what else can you do to help each other Rise after the march? What am I going to do?
Support by shopping small and don't question pricing,
Support by attending events that are centered on women empowerment,
Support by referring your friends and family in business,
Hire a small business service provider,
Start a support group centered on your interest,
Get involved with your local political figures
Educate young women on the importance of women supporting women,
Stop climbing on each other's back in order to move ahead.
I am going to make it my mission to assist 100 small business owners start or grow their small business through my mentoring and I will collaborate with other women working on this same mission.
What are you going to do? Send us an email with how you plan to make a difference in the lives women to info@womenontheriseny.com.
With Love,
Marsha
